The image supplied for this cover is a 19th Century corset ad illustrating the ways in which the Mikado craze was used to sell just about anything. The client requested at least one version using period typography and keeping the names at the bottom.

The design brief requested a simple, clean & quiet sensibility for this scholarly cover.

This cover is in process. The Chinese volume is next in the series and the art was provided by the publisher. Upon seeing the bottom three sketches, the client liked black and red sketch & the emphasis on the main word (Chinese) but asked for slightly more emphasis on the second half of the title and a different color scheme.  The top two sketches are currently under consideration and include the spine.

This cover was revised to include a subtitle and to look less elegant, more contemporary, functional and scholarly. The top one was approved.
